SYKES JOB FAIR
· The job fair conducted by Sykes last September 14 and 15, 2006 at the Governor’s Mansion Ground generated more than two hundred applicants, boosting claim that Bohol is a good source of human resource for call center operation.
· Sykes company, a call center based in Cebu, in close coordination with the provincial government thru the Bohol Employment and Placement Office (BEPO) and Bohol Investment Promotion Center (BIPC), Bohol Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI), Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) facilitated the job fair.
· The applicants were graduates from different schools in Tagbilaran City and neighboring municipalities and provinces.
Schools: HNU, UB, BIT, CVSCAFT, STI
Other schools: ACLC, Trinidad Colleges, Batuan Colleges, Silliman, CIT, Ateneo de Zamboanga, CNU, UP Cebu, Mater Dei
· Hoping for a 5% hit rate as we are still awaiting the final result of the US Phone Patch, the last step of the interview process. (national average hit rate is 5%)
· About 7% of the total applicants are considered near-hires. These near-hires will be endorsed to take a ”polishing” course at TESDA through Informatics to enhance their English Communication Skills. The near-hires may avail of the scholarship program (PGMA Training for Work Scholarships Program / PGMA-TWSP) of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo which will also be implemented by TESDA.
· The PGMA-TWSP will award to qualified applicants either full or partial scholarships, in the business process outsourcing (BPO) industry; call center, medical and legal transcription, animation, software development, and other industries with critical skills requirements.
· To further enhance outcome of future job fairs, a series of IT roadshows will run in five (5) growth centers of the province such as Tubigon, Talibon, Ubay, Jagna and Carmen. The roadshow will then expand to other towns with tertiary schools.
· The purpose of the IT Roadshow is to disseminate information and increase awareness among students on the challenges and opportunities of the Business Process Outsourcing and the ICT – enabled Industry in general.
